Auckland, October 12, The secretary of the Baden-Powell Testimonial Fund has received a letter from General Baden-Powell expressing his thanks to the people of Auckland jfor the gift of an escritoire and casket, and for their generous appreciation of .the action of the Mafeking garrison. He hopes his good fortune may some j day bring him to New Zealand, when Ihe will express his gratitude in ' person. In a letter to the editor of the \iV.Z. Ucralcl, General Baden-Powoll ! says he is endeavouring to answer the largo number of lottors and cables from well-wishers in New Zealand, but many mails for him, and from him, were captured by the enemy, which he hopes will explain any apparent want of courtesy to thoso who have not received acknowledgments.
