Tho sea is too rough for our ocean boat. She came a* far as the mouta of the river about a fortnight ago, but returned to the Waitara bridge the next day. The White Cliffs beach and the tunnel are very bad. We are, therefore, all but isolated from the rest of the world, by way of Te Kuiti being our most likely outlet. Stocks of provisions aro low, nor is there any prospect of replenishing them. Tho Noia Bradsimw is loaded for the local storekeepers, but thin she is anchored I>t I the Raleigh Bridge, and likely to be there J it ia said, for come time. Her captain has 1 been busy with the Raleigh Town Board e'ectlon, and that may have something to do with his long spell at the bridge. It it reported that he has sold the cutter; if so, we hope her purchaser may give more attention to the river trade.
Mr. Gibbs is about to erect a 'new home and store on the river flat, near the lite of ihe bridge.
There is no prospect of a butter factory this season, bat a croamery in connection with a factory in the Mirni Valley is to ba built in readiness for next season.
There are a good number of inen making 1 roads in the back blocks, and as this tias bsen pay week there has been some stir on the l oad.
The stoppage of the Mokau coal mines will be a blow to the coast. Their steamers were running between Waitara and the mines twice a week, and if they are stopped it will make it awkward to get produce in and out.
