OVER £1,000,000 WANTED. It is abated that the Government have received applications from all parts of the colony for grants fir roads and bridges, which, if agreed to, would involve a total expenditure c! over £1 000 000 There seems to be an '"mpressiou abroad that there is going to be an all-round increase in pablio expenditure, and people all over New 1 Zealand are naturally anxious to secure ■ as large a tbare as possible for w rks io their districts, This feeling has 1 doubtless been tnccnroged and intend- ' fied by the action of the House in in- J o-raMng Ministers' salaries the talk about fol owing this up by increasing • tbe payment of members, the frequent ! references ot borrowing.
