PROPOSED TRAM LINE TO OPUNAKE
There was a good and thoroughly representative attendance at the office of Mr. C. T. Mills on Monday evening to consider the question of laying a tram line to the ranges, the room beißg packed. His Worship the Mayor (Mr. E. Dockrill) was voted to the chair, and, in introducing the business, expressed his sympathy with the movement. , Mr. J, 0. Davies, the principal ; mover in the matter, then referred to the advantages of the scheme, and suggested the appointment of a committee to go fully into the matter and have a flying survey made. A general discussion ensued, in the course of which the various speakers made it clear that nothing short of a line through to Opunake would satisfy the requirements of the case. Finally, on the motion of Mr. R, 0. Hughes, a resolution was carried to the effect that, with a view to opening up the country lying between New Plymouth and Opunake via the Patua ranges, it is desirable that a company be formed to lay a tram line, and that a committee be appointed to obtain full information on the subject, and, in conjunction with the Government, the County Council, or otherwise, procure a flying survey of the route. The following committee was then elected:—His Worship the Mayor, 1 Messrs. R. Cock, J. B. Roy, H. Okey, Ahier, J. B. Connett, Snowball, J. < Crockett, W. B. Davies, Meredith, Blanchett, R. C. Hughes, and J. 0. Davies, I This concluded the meeting. < A meeting of the committee was ' then held, at which it was decided to ! communicate with the member for the j distriflj vnth tno visw of ascertaining 1 I if the Government could be induced t9 ■ n flpg survey of r*ut«, <
