At a meeting of tho Committee of the Rugby Union, attention was drawn to charges made against the Canterbury team which recently visited Loos ton by Mr. Walter Spring, hotelkeepor fit. Leeston, in tho columns of the " Sportsman." Spring, in reply to a request to attand, wroto stating that he had nothing to add to what ho had already written, but enclosing a statementfrom the licensee of the Springston Hotel that nine members of the Canter-' bury team visited her hotel and had nine drinks, for which they paid 2s 6d, and also possessed themselves of some bottles of lemonade which were not paid for. The Committee, after hearing the evidence of Mr. Evans, one of tho officials who accompanied thv team, was satisfied that theio wore no grounds for tho chargos made by Spring, which ware quite unwarranted, It was decided to the Hpriugston incident, nt a meeting oti Tuesday next, and t> oil upon the members of the team to b<> pre-sonf.
