KORU.

(FHOM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Our school was ro-oponel on Monday last, after being closed u fortnight owing to illness of tlio teachor. It is reported that Mr. F. Schwann has sold his bush Motion on tho Plymouth Road to Mr. lilanchett for tho sum of il.'J 15s. por acre. It is also currently reported that tho New Plymouth Sash and Door Company purpose erecting a sawmill 011 the Carrington Road, at the junction with tho Plymouth ltoad, and that they intend laying a tram via the Carrington Road to Now. Plymouth. It is also said that the charcoal burning industry is to be started in this district. A good many of the settlers on tho Carrington ltoad are going in for bushfelling this season, Messrs. Ukey and Moreyare felling from 60 to 100 acres ; on their sections and several others in the new block are having thoir bush 1 felled. Many enquiries are being raado as to 1 when tho native bush is to be opened 1 for lease. Land is rising in value in | this district, and there wou'd sure to : be good prices give; it' opened at the ' present time. If ni-t op-ned at once, 1 this year's felling would bo thrown out, 1 which would tell against the prko given ' for the land, besides putting the lessee ' a year back. Then i<ga>n tho (iovem- ' ment are retarding the progress of tho > district by not having the Petone Road 1 oponed. £2OO was granted last year for the road, and it certainly is most . strange that no'hing hns been done. , I believe the road has been surveyed , and laid off for some time past. , Up to the present we have had a very mild winter, ar : d chore is every indication of an early spring. Fruit trees are coming into bloom, and the grass is looking qui e green for this time of tho year. There is indication of a charge of libel being laid against one of those who signed the petition asking for an enqu-'ry in'o school matters, tho Tiachers' Insti'ute having taken the ' matter up. I should strongly advise the Teachers'lnstitute " todot slipping dogs lie."
