ANNUAL MEETING. trim nusna association.) Wkllixqtox, September 8. Tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Institute of Journalists wu held to-day, ami was well attended, Mr. J. L. Kelly, Vice-President, was in the chair.
The report and balance-sheet was read and adopted. Tho following officers were elected for tho ensuing year:—President, W, 11. Triggs, Christcburch; Vice-Presi-dents, J. L. Kelly, Wellington; W. t, 0. Cnrneross, M 11.8,, Dunedin, and F. Baxter, Auckland. Secretary, G, It. Allen, Christchurch.
Tho question of registering thalnsti* tute under tho Conciliation and Arbitration Act was discussed at great length. Tho Council of the Institute had relegated the matter to tho annual meeting as nn open question, and it was moved "That no further action be taken in the matter," and to this nn amendment was proposed, " That the matter bo referred again to the branches of the Institute." _, , Eventually the amendment wag withdrawn, and in its place the following proposal was movei and carried unanimously:—" That each branch of the New Z a'and Institute of I ists form a Bo«d of Conciliation to [ hear and determine (11 milters relating to tho conditions of work ard rate* of salary And other ti>nilar questione which may f'ooi time to lino arise iffe.-ting journalist. The by-laws wore 1 ameudid to provide that branches shall hold annuil meetings not later than 30th April, and that members one mouth iu arrcar with their subscription bo reported to the Council. A hearty vote of thaoks was accorded to Mr. S. Saunders, the retiring president, and Mr. 0. W. Earle, tho retiring secretary, complimentary references being made to the latter official for the great service he had rendered to the Institute during his four years term of office.
