NEW RAILWAY STATION AT DUNEDIN.
ROYAL COMMISSIONS ON COMPENSATION CLAIMS. (PBS PRESS ASSOOIATI6N.) Dunkdin, August 25. A Royal Commission to inquire into the compensation required for the closing of streets, if the new railway station is erected on a site north of the present one, commenced sitting on Saturday. The secretary of the Harbour Board estimated the Board's claim for loss by the closing of Stuart-street at £32,000. The Railway Department gave returns which had startled them as to the traffic in Stuart-street. Exclusive of the traffic to the railway station, the number of vehieles going to the seaward side was 332 per day; the number of footpasiengers who crossed in the direction of the wharves averaged 1702. The number of times Stuart-street was blocked by shunting was 350 per diem of 16 hours.
