RAHOTU.
(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The new sawmill of Messrs. Bartte and Co., on the Kahui Road, will soon be in operation. Preparations ore now pushing on apace. Messrs. Rothery and Co.'s mill is to be transferred where new supplies of timber -.-avail and when both sawmills are going in close contignity the top of this new way to the mountain summit , will busily and bravely hum. Mr. and Mis. Smith the first married couple to w penetrate the virgin bush up this road, are removing—their friends surprised them the other evening by an unannounced visit, made them a presentation in proof of esteem, gave them musical programme and good wishes galore. Mr. and Mrs. Townsend, of the mme road, have al-o disposed of their home and and section, and keen regret is felt, by those who remain, that another severance of old time associa- * tions is near. Cemetery matters are apparently stationary though the present conditions of sepulture are a disgrace to the community. Seine public spirit she uld enture a goosl lesponse to announced meetings of sittlers to consider the subject and take action. Apat l y cn vital matters of this kind is keenly regretted when it is too late to prevent mischief. The easy way is to let things glide in ini'ial stages and then to impose heavier burdens and rates, on I ,tho neglectful citizens, at later stages. A "send-off" to Mr. and Mrs.Buckthought is shortly to take place in oui Town Hall, which, I hear, is its.lf tc be superseded by a new structure, notwithstanding heavy recent out ay on the present building. A five d'js mission in the Weslepr Church is also announced. The preacheis a- e, the Rev. W.- Cantoell, former)y pt Opunake and the Rev. S. J. Serpell. of New Plymouth, Kev. White our own minister co-op- rating. It is well that fhe material are not the only gigoq ol fcrogrea to report, . |V>-* -
