THE STRANDING OF THE TAUPO.
DECISION OF THE MARINE COURT. [PUB PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Gbeymouih, July 21. The official inquiry was held to-day into the cause of the stranding of the Taupo on the 16th, before the S.M., (Mr. Hawkins) and Captains Bignall and Mollinson, assessors. After the evidence of Captain Brophy and Chief Officer Berquiat, the decision of the Court was that the accident was due to the breaking of the windlass. No blame was attached to anyone, nor any want of seamanship. The vessel was thoroughly and efficiently moored. The compressor was not in working order, but it was shown that the usual practice was to rely mainly on the windlass. The Court were unable to say the exact wise of the accident; it was quite inexplicable, and they could form no opinion as to the cause of it,
