THE NORTH ISLAND MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY.
DEPUTATION TO MINISTERS.
[PUB PRIISS ASSOCIATION.! Wellington. July 16 A deputation of the N.rth Island Main Trunk Cent ivil Railway League waited upon the Premier, the Hon. W. Hall-Jones, and the Hon. J, G. Ward this afternoon to urge greater expedition in the prosecution of the line. There were About 150 present from all parts of the districts interested. Messrs. D. J. Nathan, Hooper, H<dyn, Carr, and D. Fraser were the speakers.
The Hon. W. Hall-Jones said if he were given the money he could complete the line in about four years. There were 562 men at present employed at both ends of the line. The Hon. J. G. Ward also spoke. the Hon. R. J. Seddon said that authority would be taken tip's session to push the line on more vigorously than hitherto, but he deprecated going | in for a policy of borrowing a large sum for the purpose, as being against the settled policy of the country. He was not in favour of acquiring the Manawatu Railway on the terms which at present it was understood were offered by the Company, but was in favour of giving the Company a more secure tenure to induce them to carry out improvements.
