Mr. Dawson has resigned the leadership of the Labour Party owing to illhealth. Mr, W. Brown succeeds him
Parliament opecs at nojn to-morrow. The Governor's Speech will refer to the lessons to be learned from the situations in Africa, and China, and point to the necessity for maintaining efficient defences. Kefeieuce will be made to the approaching construction of the Pacific cable, aud regrets will be expressed at the serious results cf the plague and drought, Legislation will be introduced which, while making due provision for the requirements of the agricultural grazing farmer, will assure continual occupation for the whole public, It will state that the amount of loan money available for railways and public works is very limited, but a list of lines likely to prove most payable will be submitted. Bills to amend the land laws and early closing will be introduced.
