STRATFORD NOTES.
[FROM OUR OWH CORRESPONDENT.]
Our member, Mr. Symes, has been in Stratford during the last few dajs, but has now returned to Wellington. He has been suffering from a bad attack of influenza.
Bitter complain'e are being made as to the slow rate of progress in connection with the re-metalling of the East Koad. It seems a great pity that more advantage is not taken of the present spell of fine weather to push on the work. If something is not done soon, I daresay the Riding members will hear of something not at all to their advantage. Mr. James' fellmongery on the Moun-1 tain Road is rapidly approaching completion. It reflects great credit on his enterprise. The fellmonging industry ought to become an important factor in the commercial development of this district. Let us hope the new establishment will be profitable to Mr. James and the settlers alike.
A serious assault case was reported from Toko a few days lack, It was stated that a young man had been attacked by two men while entering a stable, and severely kicked. It now seems he was probably kicked by a horse!
