The Government Bill for the reform of the Oity Council provides for the election of Mayor by ratepayers; divides the city into eleven wards with two members each; elections to be held on one day; persons only to exercise one rote in one ward. No additional powers of moment are given to the Council. The amendment is chiefly constitutional. Brisbane, July 7.
The Premier, in a speech, forecasted the initiation of a big railway construction programme next session, including lines to be built by Government and others by a syndicate.
