A TRYING EXPERIENCE.
The Tyser liner Star of Australia arrived at Adelaide from London on June 18. A report of the steamer's voyage, to hand by tho Mararoa, states that the steamer had a trying experience in the Southern Ocean, where terrific weather was encountered. Throughout the long passage from the meridian of the Capo of Good Hope to that of the Leauwin, the vessel was beset by inordinately violent gales, chiefly from the southward. Tho sea rose at times to mountainous height-, and the progr ass of the vessel was in consequence greatly impeded. As, however, she lias done on many previous occasions under similar circumstances, tho Star of Aus-, tralia acquitted herself splendidly, and I emerged from the ordeal little, if any, \ the worse for tho severe bull'eting she received. In a minor degree she was handicapped by strong head winds and seas on the run from London to Las Palinas, so that, generally speaking, the voyage was accomplished under adverse conditions.' • The Star of Australia presents a beauty of line unexcelled by cargo-carriers visitiug these waters, and tho assurance of her officers that she is a splendid .sea boat m»y bo readily accepted, After visiting Melbourne and Sydney tho steamer comes on to Auckland, and loads in the colony for London and New York.—N.Z.
