AN UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE.

The Hawera Star r porta that on Sunday evening Ketemarae, a mile or so on the Mountain Road from Normanby, was visited by a fierce whirlwind which, though local in its severity, nevertheless did a considerable amount of damage in a very short time. It struck Mr, J, W, Batten's homestead with terrific force, doing considerable damage to the back of the house, bat the out-buildings and sheds further in the rear were simply wrecked and torn down as if they were of cardboard. A blacksmith's anvil was absolutely lifted off the block it retted on and thrown over. Scantlings of great weight were carried a full fifty yards. A cask of tar which no one could lift, that was standing on the ground, was blown over, and a large scalding trough was carried away a full chain.
