The Legislative Council is still sitting discussing a Temporary Supply Bill, including £134,000 covering expenses of contingents, £85,000 plague expenditure, and £ISOO to Air. Barton. *■ Mr. Raid strongly condemned the Government's delay and unlimited expenditure on plague. The Legislative Council passed Sir W. J. Lyne's Commonwealth compromise resolution after debating the opening words favouring the unamended Bill. Received 28, 2 pjn. Stonst, June 28. The Supply Bill passed all stages. The increased vote to Mr. Barton was carried by 44 to 19. Mr. Barton's indignation is based on a* remark by the Premier during the controversy on the proposal to inci ease his allowance that the Government could not allow Mr. Barton to remain in England if he could not come back without extra assistance. Mr. Reid characterised the suggestion as the most insulting thing to say of a representative colony. Sir W. J. Lyne declared that he did not mean it in the sense it was in- , tended to convey.
