WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The W.C.T.U. quarterly meeting in St. Mary's Hall on Wednesday afternoon was well attended, chiefly by members, the invitation to non-mem-bers being, apparently, not generally understood. Mrs. Allan Douglas presided, opening with devotional exercises. The Rev. Mr Snee (in place of Rev. F. G. Evans) gave a very delightful and instructive Bible reading. The Secretary, Miss Ahier, read her quarterly teport, includiog brief notices of sevt ral departments, and the addition of 11 new members. Satisfactory reports were also given by Mrs. Clow, Treasurer, and Miss Rose Sole, Supt. of the Literature Department. The President gave an account nf her visits to outlying Unions in this district, and also of her attendance as delegate for New Plymouth Union at the New Zealand Alliance Council, recently held in Wellington. Referring to the deficit in the funds of the Alliance, a plan for helping to raise the desiied amount was at once successfully initiated, and if other districts take up the task as cheerily as did the New Plymouth W.C.T.U. the debt will soon cease to exist. Miss Clarice Douglas led the singing, as piano accompanist, of a very beautiful new hymn, and of Mrs. Nixon's charming solo. A reading on the spirit of the " Women's Crusade " was the last* item on the programme, when the proceedings closed with the Benediction.
