TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —Another railway accident to record, fprtunately without loss of life. Thp cause qf this accident ;s cattle straying on unfenced pqrtionis of the line. But it is quite plain a serious loss of life will take place unless the Government wake up to their responsibility of fencing the railways. When the line was first made it might be thought it was not necessary to fence it on account of the small number of traing running ; but we have been advancing all the time, and are now running mail trains, passengers, goods, and special trains either night or d<y as required. And pqvv the Minister of Railways has decided to reduce the tariff on account of the railways paying so well. But I think lie had better keep the present tariff in force and fence the lines to protect the lives of the travelling public. After this is done then by all means [•educe the tariff.
