It was decided to reoonvtnend the support only of nun of , sterling character, who will pledge themselves to grant the right to determine the existence of the trade at the ballot box.
It was decided to hold the next conference at Palmers'on North in May* 1901. The Rev. T. J. Wills (Vicar of Oimondvill^waselectedpresident. Th* •nnual mi e:ings of the All»a; <* are to b) Jero|atetic,"and the next will U held at Auckland at a date to be fixed by the executive. On the question cf the tmploymmt of agents, the following resolution wm passed— "Tnat this meeting audoiew vh* opii.iuti cf the Canterbury ProhiU'ion Ucut.cil, that the work of 4b# AUhnco oau only be efficiently done by an experienced secretary and two "lyuiiHiug agents. It believes, too, hat, if possible, one of the agent* should be a lady. Having regard, however, to the present financial position of the Association, and the consequent responsibility resting upon the executive, it cannot do more at the present juncture than urge upon the incoming executive to give efface to the opinion! expressed in the Canterbury resolution at the earliest possible date." It wiu also resolved: That this Convention, realising the importance of utilising the) full strength of the prohibition vote to advance political interests, remits iu consideration to the committee to report at the next annual meeting; also, that with a view to securing a full vote of the people, and deeming a better system if registration necessary, a committee be appointed to oontider the question of electoral rights as to this eud.
