EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. McAllum (chairman), Miss Heywood, Messrs. Wade, Adlam, Kennedy, Mackay, Allsworth, Faull, and Hignett. The Architect's suggestions for several minor repairs at Pukearuhe were adopted. The Chairman and Architect were empowered to deal with the repair* required at Dudley Road, Ilatapiko, and Frankley Road. The Mahoe Committee applied for window blinds j also for a teacher's residence. The former matter was referred to the Inspector, and the latter could not be attended to owing to want of funds.
The Hurford Road Committee are to be informed that the Board have no funds available for clearing up school grounds and the Board expressed a hope that the Committee would see its way to have the work done. A. grant of £l2 was made towards erecting and painting a shelter shed atTariki Road.
On the recommendation of Mr. Hignett an additional grant of £3 Os lid was made to the Waitara Committee to cover the extra cost incurred in l fencing in front of the schoolmaster's residence. Tiis original voto was £G, but it was found that to make a complete job the additional expense was necessary.
Letters- were read from the Inglewood and Lepperton Committees relative to removal of the Wortley Road School, and were referred to the Committee appointed to consider the matter. A letter from the Fitzroy Committee relative to the necessity of raising the school was referred to Messrs. Wade and Hignett.
Mrs. larry was appointed sewing teacher at Whangamomona. An application by the Lower Whangamomona Committee tp have the boundaries defined was referred to Mr. Allsworth.
Messrs. Allsworth and Faull were deputed to enquire into the question of transfer of the Stanley Koad school site.
An application by the Waitara Committee to dispense with the midwinter holidays was referred to the Chairman and Inspector with power to act. Owing to lapse of meeting of householders at Tikorangi, Huirangi, Pukearuhe, Cardiff, Pungarehu, and Waihi, a fresh date is to be fixed for the election of committees for these schools. A letter from Mrs. Murphy relative to the teaching at Huiroa was referred to the School Committee for their remarks.
The Midhirst committee were authorised to shorten the mid-day recess and close the school at 3 p.m. The question of a grant towards the expenses of a tank-stand was referred to Mr. Mackay. The Tataraimaka Committee are to be supplied with the material for painting the shelter-shed provided they find the labour for same.
The Tongaporutu Committee called attention to insufficiency of funds for requirements. They are to be informed that there was a balance of 17s. Id. on March 31 and that £1 6s. 3d. has been remitted to their credit since.
A suggestion from the Inspector that the name of the Upper Whangamomona School should be altered to " Tahora " was referred to the Committee of that school.
After hearing Mr. Mackay's remarks on the examination of the Whangamomona School, the Board were satisfied that the Inspector's report was ;i fair representation of the state of the school.
It was decided that the sum of £2l surplus fees at Stratford High School, be divided between Messrs. Tyrer and J. Boyle. A letter from Mr. J. C. Bell relative to the school paddock at Pukearuhe was referred to the Commissioner (Mr. Thomson), The Board rose.
