London, May 21. President Kruger is desperately at tempting to prevent the war fizzling out.
Many prominent Boers declare that a continuance of the war is a useless saciifice of human Jives.
The ruling clique at Pretoria are unable to agree among themselves as to where they should next move. Although the Lydenburg district is not fortified there is an enormous amount of railway rolling stock concentrated between Pretoria and Rots ino Gcarcia.
Tho Government of Pretoria, in announcing tliat it intended to defend Johannesburg, disclaims any responsibilities for tbe tafety of foreigner* or property, and advises the consuls to make pi ovision to safeguard the same.
