THE NEW TRACK TO MOUNT EGMONT FROM RAHOTU.
(feom oub OWN oorrespondkkt.) L meeting, convened in the Rahotu Town Hall, was held on Saturday night "of those interested in opening up a track to the Mountain via Kahiti Road." Twenty or more gentlemen were present, besides ladies. Mr. Kitchingman was elected to preside, and the Rev. John H. White to act as secretary to the meeting. The Chairman stated he had been asked to call the meeting together, and that some who had joined in the request, and might be relied upon to co-operate, regretted to be unavoidably absent. Several present had made the ascent from this side, some of them also having experience of the older routes. Mr. Skeet, the surveyor, had stated that this would be equal to, if not easier and better than, the tracks previously opened. After an informal conversation the meeting carried unanimously a motion movod by Mr. White to this effect— j " That, seeing there is a short and easy track to the smmmit of the mountain via Kahui Road, a Oommittee be now formed to take the neoessary steps forthwith to open and make it available."
On Mr. Frethey's motion, the following gentlemen were elected as members of the Oommittee: —Messrs. Howell, Bleakley, Wilcox, H. Rothery, Oolmer, Kitchingman, Stonex, Wright, and the mover, with power to add to their number.
The Chairman was thanked, and the meeting dispersed. The Oommittee held its first meeting immediately, elected a Chairman, and authorised necessary preliminary negotiations. Evidently tlwy mean business. The scenery of the westarn route is said to be of the finest nature.
