Mr. Watt has received the full report of the Pacific Cable Board, The first objection taken to the Gape cable is that it would diminish the traffic of j the Pacific cable when completed. It is pointed oat that if the Pacific cable' obtained anything lika one-third of the | whole of the tiafiic—and it is estimated that it will in leality get five-twelfths of the business—the conditions on' which a progressive decrease of half-a-crown a word is promised by the Eastern Extension Company would never be realised, and mignt be practically disregarded. The Board contemplates a rate of two shillings for ordinary messages over the Pacific cable itself, and a through rate of three shillings, eo that the construction of the Pacific cable would probably secure the reductions offered by the Company
