TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. D.McAllum (chairman), Miss Heywood, Messrs. Faull, Wade, 'Adlam, Hignett, Allsworth, and Kennedy.

The Architect was instructed to call for tenders for the erection of a teacher's residence of two rooms at Tututawa, and Messrs. McAllum, Wade, and Adlam were appointed a Committee to open the tenders. Some small repairs at the Central School were authorised. The verandah at the Omata School residence is to be proceeded with at once.

The teacher of the Norfolk Road School is to be reprimanded for allowing the chimney of his residence to get into such a foul state as to catch fire, and thereby endanger the Board's property.

The shelter sheds at Waiongona, Lepperton, and Salisbury Road are to be painted at a convenient opportunity. A complaint by the Salisbury Road Committee as to the work recently executed at the school was referred te the Inspector for his remarks thereon. A request for a teacher's residence at Mangaere could not be complied with owing to lack of funds.

Permission was given to the Inglewood Committee to alter the school hours during the winter months. Owing to want of funds the Board were ucable to assist the Egmont Village Committee with a grant towards beautifying the grounds. Mrs. W. Corbett, Okato, wrote inquiring if the teacher had authority to use a riding whip or strap for punishing children.—The matter was referred to the School Committee, The action of the chairmen of the Waitara and Warea Committees in closing their respective schools was confirmed.

Mr. Bell (Pukearuhe) is to be in formed that the Commissioner has explained re reserve paddock, and that the Board see no reason to interfere.

The Architect's report as to proposed removal of the Wortley Road School was referred to the Inglewood and Lepperton Committees,

A sawing teacher is to ba appointed to the Ngariki School.

In connection wioh the Opaku University Reserves, Mr. Allsworth gave notice of motion for the appointment of a joint committee consisting of three members of the Board, two High School Governors, three members of the Wanganui Board, and two of the Victoria College Council ; the Committee to bavo power to settle details, and obtain Parliamentary sanction to the scheme, The Board rose.
