Admiral Colomb read a piper at the Colonial Institute on " British Defence," iu which he advocated a co-ordination of colonial and British forces, and equality, statu?, and similarity with regard to armament ind stores, aud colonial forces volunteering and co-operating with the Imperial in grca l ; defensive wars. The Hon. E. Barton said that early binding obligations would bo premature, Cohesion must spring from spontaneity, wbich was shown in the present war. The feeling was likely to grow. A suggestion for common-action must come from the colonies. The Hon. Mr. Dickson (Queensland) said the spontaneity of assistance indicated a kinship with the downtrodden equally with the solidarity of the Empire. The industrial claims prevented Australia becoming a recruiting ground for the army.
