Lord Roberts is urging Oolonel Baden-Powell to persist in his defence of Mafeking till the middle of May, to which the Oolonel has replied that it will be possible to do so if rigid economy is observed. The Boers report that on April sth they surrounded and shelled a band of armed Kaffirs who were escaping from Mafeking, and killed 31. LORD METHUEN'S MOVEMENTS. COLONEL I'LUMEH WOUNDED. Received 12, 1.30 a.m. London, April 11. There are indications that the vanguard of Lord Methuen's Mafeking relief force has traversed VYyburg, Oolonel Plumer was slightly wounded in the arm and his horse shot during a rifle engagement within six miles of Mafeking on the 31st Marcb. The enemy outnumbered his force, of whom ten were killed and 27 wounded. The retirement was effected in an orderly manner. The enemy's loss was serious. Lord Methuen advanced to Zwartskopjesfontein, towards Hoopstad. The Naval Brigade is bombarding the Boer positions beyond Sunday's River.
