WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.

The first quarterly public meeting in connection with the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held in St. Mary's Schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. It was successfully carried out, but the heavy shower which fell just at the time of meeting undoubtedly prevented a larger number from attending, About twenty-six members and friends were present. Rev. S. S, Osborne gave the Bible reading, taking the last chapter of Proverbs, which was most appropriate to the occasion. The President explained that the object of the quarterly afternoon meetings was to give the members and the public generally a better opportunity of understanding more thoroughly the object and work of the Union, Miss Ahier gave a most pleasing account of work which fehe had seen carried out under, the auspices of the British Women's Temperance Association while she was visiting England last year. Miss Bayly sang by request " He wipes the Tear from Every Eye," and Miss Douglas sang " The Hour of Prayer." The President gave a short discourse on the practical side of Scientific Temperance. Eeports from the Secretary, Treasurer and Literature Superintendent were given.
