TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board met on Wednesday. Present: Mr. McAllum (chairman), Miss Heywood, Messrs. Faull, Mackay, Adlam, Allsworth, and Wade. The Architect (Mr. J. Sanderson) reported the completion of the contract at Salisbury Road School; also that the Tariki scheol-teacher's residence required painting inside and out and other repairs, at a total estimated cost of £57. —The latter matter was deferred until the receipt of a reply as to the additional Government grant.

The claim of Mr. Bennett for excavating a school site at Huiroa was referred to the Architect, with power to act.

The Architect was also empowered to deal with outhouses at Frankley Road School.

Owing to want of funds, the request for a teacher's residence at' Durham Road, the necessity of which was recognised, could not be entertained. Permission was given to the headteacher (Mr. Heenan) at Opunake to lease the school residence, subject to the Board's conditions and the Committee's approval. A letter from the Opunake Committee drawing attention to the overcrowded state of the school was referred to the Inspector, A new 400-galloo tank is to b« supplied to that school. A subsidy of £7 10s was agreed to in aid of the cost of a shelter shed at Rahotu, provided the plan was approved and the work passed by the Architect, Thos. Reader, Toko, was granted a seven years' lease of section 27, block i, Omona, on usual terms. Messrs. Alls worth and Faull were appointed a Committee to report on the Board's reserves. The Bell Committee's proposals as to subsidy for additions to and painting Upland Road school were accepted, A grant of £2 2s 6d was made to tht Matau Committee towards the expense of deepening the well and repairing fencing. The Inspector submitted an order for apparatus amounting to over £IOO, and reported that the schools were at present poorly supplied with material for object lessons, also that certain maps were much needed.—The Chair man was authorised to spend up to £75, and tbe qncs' ion of further outlay was referred to the Finance Comtnitt e. The following mmes are to be submitted to 'he Oiltura Committee, with a view to seleiting a teacher there from:—Misfes E. M. Gucn, Ka*e Wade, and A, I. Aitken, Messrs. G. Mnguinniss, T. lir. wn, and R. Charl™. The Inspector's report on tha teaching at TikoraDgi school is to be forwarded to the Committee for their remarks thereon. It was decided that tbe water rate be paid to the Borough Council, and that the Chairman be requestod to, ascertain the Board's position with re-' gard to its tenants. Accounts were passed and the Board rose.
