Auckland, March 22. Great interest was taken in the licensing election, which resulted in the return of the temperance ticket, Lateb. 1 The interest in the licensing election was intense, and the crowd hung round the Drill Shed till 2.30 this morning till the result was announced. At every polling-booth the 10 o'clock can--1 didates had a majority, save the Drill Shed, which left the issue in suspense i till the above hour. Mr. J. J. Craig headed the poll. He voted against an extension of hours when on the old Committee till the issue had been put
before the electors. Eight thousand voted out of 14,528 electors. The women polled heavily. The 10 o'clock candidates averaged 500 votes ahead of the moderate candidates. , Wanganui, March 22. The licensing election resulted in ' the return of live temperance candiI dates pledged to 10 o'clock licenses, the five candidates representing the 11 o'clock ticket being defeated. Palmerston North, March 22. The licensing election resulted in the total defeat of the Prohibition candidates, the following being elected: Snelson 944, W. T. Wocd 935, Ravenbill 888, Jack 843, D. Grant 843. The h following were the defeated candidates: Pirani 601, M. Henry 482, J. Stubbs 461, Hodder 453, A. Whitehead 432.
