THE OUTBREAK IN SYDNEY. TWO MORE DEATHS. (Received 21,11.17 p.m.) Sydney, March 21. Heaton and Pepper are dead. A big crowd was awaiting the opening of the inoculation office this morning, and the officiuls had great difficulty in gaining admission. As soon as the doars were opened the crowd rushed the stairs, and so densely blocked them that they broke the banisters, and overran office. The police with difficulty obtained a clearing, and kept a check. The offices were besieged all day. Another case of plague is reported, the sufferer being a youth named! Fleming, residing at Balmain.
All cases to date have been traced to Sussex-street. Dogs are suggested as a possible means of transmission of the germs of the plague. The police have killed over 1000 ownerless dogs in consequence of the above suggestion. (Received 22, 130a,nr>.) In consequence of the plague the Government has decided to close a number of wharves in Darling Harbour, including the Union, Adelaide, and North Coast companies, and Huddart Parker's. Berthing accommodation will be provided at Darling Island and Pyrmont. Ferry-steamers running to Darling Harbour will be diverted to Circuhr Quay. Mr. Lyne asked the Indian Government to grant the services of two plague experts, and received a reply offering one.
The health authorities will take possession of the wharves and thoroughly overhaul them. One thousand and twenty-one persons were inoculated to-day. A fresh supply of serum has been received, sufficient for six or seven thousand.
