CANTERBURY'S JUBILEE.
The Jubilee of the Canterbury Province is to be celebrated by the holding of an industrial exhibition, commencing on November Ist, next. A prospectus forwarded by the Secretary, At. Thos. Garrard, shows that the initial arrangements such as the appointment of the Executive Council and the various committees and officials, and the framing of the general rules for the exhibition have been settled. It is evident that preliminary matters are already well in hand thus allowing ample time for the general business of advertising the exhibition and for carrying out the necessary arrangements. From a communication sent us by Mr. Garrard, we learn that the exhibition besides celebrating the Jubilee of the province, will also inaugurate the Agricultural and Industrial Hall, a building now in course of erection at a cost, with the land, of .£25,000, the funds being raised by means of a Limited Company, supported by all the leading citizens and country settlers of Canterbury, the Industrial Association also devoting the surplus from its 1895 Exhibition i (some £a000) to the same object. The building will fill a much felt want in Christchureh, and be available for all public purposes. As the exhibition will be open by Carnival week it is expected that large contingents ot visitors will be attracted. Lord and Lady Ranfurly appear on the prospectus as patrons of the exhibition, while included in the Executive Councils are the Mayors of Christchureh and the various Canterbury towns, together with the presidents of the Chambers of Commerce and Industrial Associations of Auckland, Wellington, Dunedin, and Invercargill.
