A MAN SHOT IN THE HEAD. A PLUCKY ABItEST. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, March 12. James Brannan, aged 35, a platelayer on the railway, was • returning from church to bis home at Te Papa on Sunday, when a man named James Donaghy, it is alleged, deliberately tired, at him with « fowling-piece •some of the shot entered Brenuan'b head; there are several shot wound* over one eye, also in his neck and left ear. Brenuan is conscious, but in great pain. He stated that he gave Donaghy no provocation. Donaghy barricaded himself in his o? n house, aud threatened to shoot the first man who dared enter. Constable McNamara induced a youog man warned Allen to enter through a window at the back of the house. He seized Donaghy as Donaghy was taking aim at a man in front. The constable and others rushing iu seized and handcuffed him. In the struggle Donaghy fired again, but did not injure anyone's
Donaghy bas been eccentric lately, sinco his mother's death.
