At the University Senate, the case of Albert Peck, of Wellington, a candidate for the last mat! iculation examinat'on, who is alleged to have ob' ained access to certain papers before the examination, was considered. The report of the Committee was that Peck had been guilty of a gross offence ; u that, in addition to the Latin paper he obtained access to questions in English, geography, and algebra before the examination. The Committee stated that Peck declined to give the name of his correspondent, and they recommended that his matriculation examination be disallowed and his name struck off the books of the "University. Counsel was allowed to appear for Peck, who is a lad of 18 or 19, and it was admitted that he had seen one of the papers. The Senate was asked to allow Peck to sit again at next examination. Eventually, the Senate decided to adopt the recommendation of the Committee that matriculation of the candidate be disallowed, bis name struck off the books of the University, and that he be not allowed to present himself at any future University examination. It was decided to hold the next annual meeting at Auckland, on the third Wednesday in February, The estimate revenue for the current year was fixed at ,£6,310, and the expenditure at ,£5780. The accumulated capital of the Scholarship Fund on January Ist last was .£14,924. The Committee's recommendation that 15 scholarships be offered in December, 1900, was adopted. The report of the Committee that Mr. J. p. Dakin, of the University of London, be admitted to the " ad eundem " degree of B.A. of the New Zealand University, was adopted.
