TARANAKI GUARDS.
There was an excellent muster of volunteers in connection with the new corps, at the Courthouse on Tuesday night. Captain Taunton presided over the meeting. The resignation of Capt. Hood as 2nd Lieutenant of the corps was received with regret, and Mr. A. H. Holmes was unanimously elected to fill his place. It was resolved that the commissioned officers of the corps be formed into a committee to select and secure eiivica uniforms for the corps; also, that Messrs. Messenger, Hardy, McKinnon Bain, Waldy, Nixon, Ainswortb, MacDiarmid, Harrison, and Bauchope, with the commissioned officers, be appointed to act as a general committee for the corps. On the motion of Messrs. Mills and Bacon, Dr. Home was appointed hon. Burgeon of the corp3 ; and on Messrs. A ins worth and Spence's motion, Rev. F. Q. Evans was elected hon. chaplain. Sixteen names wero handed in to the secretary for non-commissioned officers, six for signalling corps, and four for buglers, The following gentlemen were elected honorary members:—Messrs. T. Avery, Richmond, Teed, Roy, liennell, Paul, Loveridge, Hooper, Sykee, and Goodacre. Fourteen members of tho corps are untitled to wear the R:d Cross of Goneva, so that the ambulance corps >?ill bo a strong one. Some 68 membsra who were present signed io.
