The weather on Wednesday evening was by no means promising for the success of the Waitara Regatta, held on Thursday, and no one could have imagined that the regatta would have been favoured with such splendid atmospheric conditions; but so it was, a*d the large crowd which came from many miles round had a most enjoyable outing. It was somewhat late before a start was made, but, with the ex- j •ception of the tub races, all the events were got through before the departure of the special train. The attendance was quite up to the average, and the diversity of the pretty summer toilettes of the ladies added a very charming effect to the gay and animated scene on both banks of the river. All the executive worked hard, the President, Mr. G. Y. Tate, being especially active in the fulfilment of his arduous duties. The starter, Mr. F. Mills, gave the greatest satisfaction, and succeeded in effecting a good fair start for each event. Judging by the large crowd in the neighbourhood of the City Band (which was supplemented by the Waitara Band) the music was highly appreciated, and helped considerably towards the i success of the meeting. The following are the results of the various events:—
