A DEADLOCK ARISE 3. [PEE PBESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, February 19. The wharf labourers' dispute was before the Conciliation Board to-day. The employers represented were the Harbour Board, the Union Co., the New Zealand Shipping Co., Huddart, Parker and Co., and otliei steamship owners trading out of Wellington. The representatives of the employers asked that tho case should not be gone on with until the board had its full strength, one of the employers' representatives having resigned. Mr. Kennedy, for tho Union Co., said if the application was not granted, tho Supreme Court or the Arbitration Court should be asked to stay proceedings, us the contention of the employers was that the Board was illegally constituted. The chairman of the labour members of the Board contended that the Board t*ould go on "with the business. • The employes' representative suggested that one of his eolloagues should retire, and then there would be a fair representation. The chairman replied that this would strengthen the hands of those who declared the Board was not legally constituted. Ultimately, it was decided to ga on, the employers agreeing to do so under protest.
