Ohrhtchtjrch, February 5. The total amount of the collection made in the city on Saturday by a number of ladies for the war fund is X 157 8s 3d. Invitations to be present on the occasion of the departure of the Third Contingent have been sent to the Mayors of every city and borough in the colony. A lot of work was got through at the camp this morning. Lieut. Hurst, of the Waimate Rifles, came in to join the troops, but, finding that there was no vacancy in the commissioned ranks, he immediately offered his services as a trooper, and was accepted. At the invitation of Mrs. Reece, wife of the Mayor of Ohristchurch, nearly 100 ladies met to-day for the purpose of making " hold-alls" for the Canterbury troops. THB NEW PLYMOUTH MEN SELECTED. The final selection from the New Plymouth applicants for inclusion in the Third Contingent was made on Monday. The selection committee consisted of His Worship the Mayor (Mr. E. Dockrill), Dr. Mcdeland, Major Ellis, Captain Okey, Messrs. J. Bellringer, D. Berry, E. H. Godsal, N. K. MacDiarmid, and W. L. Newman. Ten men were selected, who will go to Wanganui by the 7.55 train this morning, where the final selection of six men will be made. The names of those chosen are:—W. C. Gallaghan, Daggan, Fulton, J. Glynes, Mackinder, McKyinon, Murdock, Richardson, £. , ; Veale, and O. Wiggins. Stratford will | _. send five men, but Hawera's contribu- ~~ tion is not yet known. The Mayor will address the men at the station, • - and bath Bands will be present. li ,In connection with the offer of Mr. Hal Goedacre, of the Egment Boot Factory, to supply the Taranaki members of the contingent with boots, we have been asked to state that the boots can be obtained either at the factory or at Wanganui. Mr. Goodacre has kindly made arrangements in the latter .town for the supply of the boots. Dunkdin, February 5. Offers of men, bcises, and money are j coming in freely for the Otago and Southland, company of tho-Fourth Con- : tingent. Already 125 men have volunteered, while horses andmsney to boy them have been offeree from anumber of parties. The contingent; trill go into camp at Forbury Park, thej use of which has been given. The Union Company has made anptheir donation of £IOO, and Messrs Wright, Stephenson, and Co. .£SO. A number of firms and private individuals Isaye given £25 for a horse, including "tfco Tahuna Park Co., the Otago Club, aiod the hair-dressers of the city, if he \ banks propose to give two horses.
