In response to enquiries made at Euston, Colonel Hood, who is in command of the Australians, offered to transform his five companies into mounted infantry. The Conmiandei-in-Chief has accepted the cffor. Londox, February 1. Colonel Williams, of the New South Wales Army Medical Corps, has been appointed principal medical officer to the Australian forces. A NEW ZEALANDER ILL. (Received 3, 1.30 a.m.) Capetown, February 2. Trooper Hurford, of tho New Zealand Contingent, is seriously ill of heart disease.
