ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

[PEE PBKSS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington, February 2. It is feared that a young man named William Rattray, aged 22, whose parents reside at Lawrence, Otago, was drowned while bathing in Oriental Bay this morning. He was seen to enter the water, and later his clothes and his bicycle were found on the beach. There is no sign of the body. It is thought Rattray must have been seized with cramp or attacked by a shark, Rattray was employed in the Scottish Metropolitan Life Assurance Company's office. Auckland, February 2. Michael Lawler fell through Mechanics' Bay railway bridge at one o'clock this morning, landing on his side on .the barbed-wire fence. He said he thought he heard a train whistle, and was getting out of the way. He was taken to the hospital.
