THE EMPEROR WILL ABDICATE SHORTLY. [PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.] (Received 27, 9.30 a.m.) Pekin, January 25. Aa Imperial edict has been issued at Pekin proclaiming that the Emperor baa appointed Prince Puckum, aged 9 year?, son of Tuan, who was a son of the fifth son of the Emperor Tao Kwang, his heir. The Emperor has taken this step on account of ill-health. London January 26. Renter's Pekin correspondent states that the Emperor will probably abdicate at the bcg : nning of the Chinf S9 New Year in accordance with the Dowager Empress' intentiocs. ' There is considerable opposition in ! Chinese Court circles to the advent of a third minor under the Dowager j Empress.
