BOROUGH LOAN.
TO THE EDITOR. Sih, —To us who dwell in the back streets, the supply of water and light is as neeess >ry, perhaps more so, as to our richer neighbours, Our rates are less, of course, and so are our privileges. In time we hope to get better roads and footpaths, but for these we mus.fr wait, and I don't suppose it will bo for long either. What I want to. say is, that the gentlpman at the- meeting who showed how electricity had enabled the Wellington Council to light the back streets where gas would never have been -.taken our best thanks. I can quite see that Witt electricity we stand a chance of light in our streets that ii worth having; and we want it badly, as the streets are none too good, and a little to avQid the worst places wopkLbe &.BOOA. s Then, as to water, Mmy of our women-folk eke out a living by laundry work, and would welcome an assured supply. Besides, the' ujiOre. clean water yve got the better for 'lis ; '.the' drkiiiage business do<js ,n,oli fiifect. .Us—nothing could be easier £1; betterthan our pail earth plan, I feel sure that che more the' loan scheme is understood the more it will "commend itself to every every • " < ' ■> 'BiCK-SraEEXEIi.
