MRS. PUTNAM’S FLIGHT.
’PLANES AT HONOLULU American Clipper Coining to New Zealand. Press Association—Copyright. Received 11.10 a.m. Honolulu, March 18. Mrs. Earhart Putnam arrived at dawn to-day from Oakland, in 15 hours 52 minute?, on the first stage of her world flight. She has not decided to depart to-day or tomorrow for Howland island. Except for saying that the trip was uneventful, Mrs Putnam withheld comment because of story contracts she has entered into. The new Pan-American Airways clipper pioneering the route to the Antipodes arrived to-day and will probably depart on Friday for Kingman Reef, Pago Pago, and Auckland. The Hawaii clipper arrived on the regular Manila voyage. Mrs. Putnam’s time is a new record in the East to West crossing. Her departure is not certain, owing to the weather. Mrs. Putnam said that she was not tired, but she immediately left the air field for bed. The weather to-day at Honolulu is satisfactory. The sky is overcast, but there is a ten miles’ visibility. The flying distance from San Francisco to New Zealand is 6980 miles. Distances of the various “hops” are: San Francisco-Honolulu, 2410 miles. Honolulu-Kingman Reef, 1070 miles. Kingman Reef-Pago Pago, 1550 miles Pago Pago-Auckland. 1850 miles.
