The bankr received thousands of applications before the opening of the Government loan. It is believed that the first instalment will be rapidly subscribed. Clients are already applying for later instalments.
The President, M. le Brun, in a country-wide broadcast, urged every citizen, esipecially hoarders, to assist the new Government loan, according to their means. He recalled the unity of wartime and said that the same spirit v*as essential now as the loan was necessitated by the economic crisis, one of the catastrophes arising from the war. France could not be indifferent when other nations- were rivalling each other in sacrifices in their efforts to rearm, he said. M. Bonnet in a radio address stated that France recognised the danger of the world race to build armaments and would be ready to accept a general reduction and control of armaments.
