MAORI TREASURES.
CASTS IN PLASTER.
Valuable Auckland Group. A very valuable collection of ancient Maori casts in plaster has reached the Auckland Museum from British Muteum and are perfect reector of the museum, Mr A. W. B. Povt’ell, said that the collection, which was a magnificent one. was ture to arouse great interest. “The casts are perfect,” said Mr Powell, “and number about 20 in all. They comprise samples of Maori wood carvings, tikte, fine feither boxes and two big canoe store posts sft. long. The casts were made at the British Museoum and are perfect refrlicas of the originals, which are housed there. Some time ago the British Museum 15 as approached by New Zealand’s former Governor-General, Lord Bledlsloe. who suggested that an exchange could perhaps be made with the Dominion. “We have Co thank Lord Bledlsloe for the collection,” eaid Mr Powell, | “because all arrange me att' were made by him.”
