Australian Championships Now Under Way. Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, Jan. 27. The Australian tennis championships reached the quarter final's today. The results ot the men’s singles were: Bromwich beat Turnbull (South Australia) 6 —2, 6—2, G —o; Crawford beat Schwartz (South Australia) 6—3, 2—6, 3—6, 6—2, 6—6; McGrath beat A. Kay (Victoria) 6 —2, 6 —2, B—6;8 —6; Hopman beat Quist 11—9, 3—6, 7—5, 6—3, The result of the Hopmail-Quist match was a complete surprise. Hopman out-generalled Quist with clever variations in his game, which upset Quist, causing him to lose much of his customary accuracy. Crawford owing to his being less enthusiastic, than his young opponent went perilously close to being beaten. Bromwich, rapidly playing Himself into the Davis Cup team, outplayed Turnbull at all stages, losing only four games.
