HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING.

The monthly meeting of the Nelson Hospital and Charitable Board was held yesterday afternoon. 'Present: Messrs T. Nealo (chairman), R. Win, A. I. Manoy. J. G. Page, 1. Hewotson, \*. Lock, and Mrs Watson. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—Hospital account, £611 Is lOdj charitable aid, £423 18s sd. HOSPITAL SURGEON'S 'REPORT. The Resident Surgeon (Dr. T. L. Parr) reported that during the month o2 patients were admitted to the Hospital, 54 were discharged, and 3 died, leaving, 59 in the institution, Diphtheria had: heen prevalent, and 18 cases were ad-j mitted during the month. _ Dr.. Parr suggested the installation ot a Delco light power plant in connection with the X-ray apparatus at an initial cost ot, £200. Such plant could also be used; for lighting purposes. It was resolved that a committee comprism<» the town members and Mr, Manoy investigate and report on the: proposed installation of a "Delco" light power plant. . Dr Parr applied for an increase ot salary and it was resolved that an increase'of £50 per annum he granted. ALEXANDRA HOME. The report of the Master of the Alexandra Home stated* that two inmates had been admitted during the month, leaving 26 in the home. RELIEVING OFFICER'S REPORT. The Relieving Officer ("\lr H. Coltman) reported that during the month 10 families had been in receipt of assistance, one adaitional application for assistance had been received, and in two instances aid hail been discontinued. "Waimea County: Influenza of a mild type had been very much in evidence, 39 cases having heen reported from various parts of the district. He pointed out the necessity of reporting suspicious cases of diphtheria, and stated that several residents of the . Waimoas had had the disease, being under the impression Jhat they were suffering merely from sore1, throats, but from reports "received later it was necessary to take steps to prevent the spread of the disease. CORRESPONDENCE

The Health Department notified that the date of the Hospital conference had been postponed until June Ist. The trustees in the estate of the late Mrs Askew notified that the deceased had bequeathed to the board for the women's ward her wheel chair, to be known as "The Askew Chair," and her air bed and bellows.—To be acknowledged with thanks. Mrs Jessie Scott wrote thanking the Resident Surgeon and staff for their attention to her late husband, Mr David i Scott. The Resident" Hospital Surgeon forwarded suggestions in connection with the accommodation of the new fever war c[.—The matter was discussed, but no action was taken. The secretary of the Nelson Education Board wrote asking if Mr H. Coltman, Health Inspector, would be permitted to act ns truant officer to the board.— Resolved that permission be granted for the present, TENDERS. Tenders for supplies were considered1 as follows: —Hospital: For bread and Hour, the tender of Freeman and Sons, j the only one received, was accepted ;, for meat two tenders were received, but were declined, and the matter cf sxranging for supplies was left to _ the chairman and the relieving officer. Alexandra. Home: For milk, the tender! of C. F. Landford, the only one received, was accepted; for bread and flour and groceries, one tender for each was received, and the* matter was left to the chairman and Mr Coltman, with power1 to act. The tender of Mr A. Shone for funerals was accepted. GENERAL. In answer to Mr Manoy, the chairman sail he would forward correspondence received in connection with the cost and maintenance of a cottage hospital. Mr Lock gave notice to move at the j next meeting that a letter be ionvaidedi to each Hospital Board which baa a de-j tached home for the nursing staff in its j employ, asking for a copy of the regulations in force for the conduct and control of such hotiso.
