CHARGES DISMISSED

Cnristchurch, March 4. The charges of negligence against F. J. Needharn and C. Smellie, of the New i Zealand Refrigerating Company, in j connection with the Taimii disaster, ! were dismissed by Mr. W r. R. McKean, S.M., who in a reserved judgment to- | day held that Needham had no knowj ledge of the leaky condition of the pet- ; rol cargo, and that .Smellie thought that 'the matter was the <3tij|p of the captain 'or mate. The Magistrate said it was ' hard to imagine how-a careful captain ' should have accepted such a cargo*, hut; there was no warrant for the suggestion ' that some limitation had been imposed by the owners on the captain. The 1 Magistrate accepted the statement of 5 the managing director that no instructions were given to any employee to ac--1 cept the cargo or to hasten loading. N i ... .. ■
