(Australian and N.Z. Cable Asaociation)

(Received March 3, 7.25 p.m.)

Washington, March 2. The Senate rejected by 43 votes to 34 the- Democratic substitute for the lie*publican definition of Monroeism. This reservation was not changed from last session. Senator Lodge pointed out that the British delegation at the Peace Conference held that Monroeism in the future, would be interpreted by the League of Nations, not by the United States. ■

Senator Hitchcock's resolution replacing the Republican reservation safeguarding American rights in. domestic issues, was defeated. The adoption of the Republican reservation safeguarding American rights was forecasted.

The Senate adopted the original Lodge reservation by which the United States reserves to itself the right to decide what are domestic questions not subject to the League of Nations' jurisdiction. •«E^ipP'.^ : s' 5WiT,W'^!Tr riTYjT; J\
