Sergt. Wade, who has been at Wellington Central. Station as acting-ser-geant for some.-time, is to be transferred from, Wellington to take charge of the Wairoa station, Hawke's Bay. — Press Association.
The death, took place at Auckland last week of Mr Walter. V. Young, formerly a-, well-known Taranaki sportsman, who. raced Convoy, Crimson Streak,, and other horses. Mr. Young who was 57 years of. age, was for some years judge at th© meetings of the Opunake Racing Clui>,.and.was a prominent golfer,.
Orti the' eve of his departure for Nelson,. Mr L. 6. Carter was met by a number of. Leesto.q residents,, and presented with a case of.pipes anda tobacco pouch, as parting gifts"feom : the various sports clubs with-which he had'been associated. Mr E>. M. Robertson presided, and the presentation was. made by Mrs Johnston, who referred to the live interest Mr Carter had taken in tennis, cricket, golf., and other games.. On behalf of the- staff of the- Farmers' Co-operative Association, Mr 11. GL Pamer. (branch manager)., presented Mr Carter with a leather suit case, as a. mark of good-will, and conveyed good wishes for his future success. Mr Carter suitably acknowledged the gifts.—"Press."
